While I enjoy travelling, I must admit that I am not the most travelled person in the world. I have travelled to seventeen states
(Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Washington, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Maine), the District of Columbia
(i.e., D.C.) and two countries
(Mexico, Japan). Yet, there have been some pretty awesome experiences in my limited travels. Here are six of my favorites just to name a few .....
- Disney World (Orlando, FL) – Tricia and I took Liana and Landon to Disney World on our family vacation a couple of years ago. Being at Disney World is like being in a whole different world where the rules of reality are suspended for a few days …… a place where dreams really do come true. "At the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, come inside it's fun inside!"
- Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine – I took a mission team to Maine a few years ago to work with a church planter friend from seminary. We were able to take a little site seeing time while we were there. The lighthouses and the rock cliffs along the coast are breathtaking.
- Hiroshima and Tokyo, Japan – As an exchange student in the summer of 1994 I was able to travel to Mure-Cho, Japan. A couple of the highlights were the day and night we spent in Tokyo going and the day trip to Hiroshima. The cultural experience was quite a bit for this small town boy from Georgia.
- New Orleans, Louisiana – My first venture into the Crescent City was in April 2006 while on a mission trip to Kiln, Mississippi to work with Samaritan’s Purse in clean up and rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina. Kiln is about 50 miles from New Orleans, so we took an evening ride into New Orleans to see the destruction left behind from Katrina. My second venture into the Crescent City was with my dad in December 2007 for the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2008. My dad had always wanted to visit New Orleans and as die hard Georgia Bulldog fans, it was the perfect father-son trip.
- Atlanta Zoo – Who wouldn’t enjoy a trip to the zoo?
- Washington, D.C. – This is a place I would like to visit again. My first, and only, trip to the nation’s capital was over Christmas break of my fourth grade year. We have family that live in Springfield, VA. My grandparents took my older sister and I to visit for a few days over Christmas break. The monuments and buildings were awe-inspiring. My favorite part of the visit was the day my grandfather and I spent at the Air and Space Exhibit at The Smithsonian Institute.
